Tying with door anchor

Seat the anchor over the top of the door, shut the door and lock it, then hang your own weight on it before anyone else is clipped on.

How it is done

A door anchor is a strap with a stop-block that sits over the top edge of a closed door, so the door leaf and its frame take the load rather than any fitting. The door has to be closed on it and then locked, or somebody opens it and the anchor comes down with whatever is attached to it. Test it with your own weight before anyone else is fastened to it — every time, not only the first time.

What goes wrong with this one

A door handle, a hinge and a hook screwed into plasterboard are not anchors; the anchor is the only part of that setup rated to take a person.
